Prospect  College of Advanced Technology has announced that Laurence Roberts, curriculum development lead - engineering, has been granted the professional designation as Chartered Engineer from the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Laurence has been with PROCAT for three years having enjoyed a distinguished career in electronics. Starting at Stamford and Lincoln Colleges, Laurence completed a City & Guilds Electronics course, followed by BTEC courses and eventually an HNC in Electronic Engineering.

Laurence became a Senior Hardware Engineer and Electrical Design Authority at SELEX, working on hi-tech military equipment and thermal imaging cameras. SELEX (now Leonardo) allowed Laurence to complete his BSc (Hons) in electronics.

Part of Laurence’s responsibility whilst working at SELEX was working with and mentoring apprentices in their engineering placements.

In 2008, Laurence decided to take up teaching full-time and achieved his

teaching qualification in 2011 from the University of Essex.

Laurence said: “I have always enjoyed working with students and apprentices and decided to join PROCAT in 2013 with the intention to develop the electronics, engineering and higher education at the college.

“As curriculum development lead for engineering, I am currently working within a team and the University of Essex to develop and start the new degree apprenticeship in embedded systems electronics and hope to have our first cohort in the next academic year.”

Laurence has plans to use this status to network and promote the degree apprenticeship, working closely with the IET and other establishments.
