May day at De Vere laps up the sun
Great fun was had by all at a school May day fayre, as people danced, ate and played in the sun.
More than 500 people joined in the event on Great Maplestead's village green on Monday **5/5*, helping raise £1,256 for a new interactive whiteboard.
The fayre, organised by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), included maypole dancing and country dancing as well as the school's own dance and choir groups.
PTA secretary Angela Davis said gazebos shielded people from the sun as the barbecue and beer tent did a roaring trade.
She said: "Members of the public joined in the maypole dancing, it was a little chaotic but it went alright in the end.
"We were hoping to make £1,000 as we had not done anything as big as this for quite a long time so to exceed our expectations totally was excellent.
"It was a lovely village atmosphere as we got support from the village."
